Guest Travel Protection

Travel insurance for vacation rental guests

Travel protection, offered where guests actually book

Travel insurance marketplaces serve guests who go hunting for coverage. Your booking flow serves everyone else. Offer protection at checkout — better trips for guests, fewer cancellation fights for your team.

In short

Travel insurance for vacation rental guests reimburses a guest's prepaid, non-refundable stay costs when they cancel or cut a trip short for a covered reason. Velaris lets property managers offer it inside the booking flow they already run, so guests are protected on high-value trips and managers can hold firm cancellation policies without refund disputes.

Why operators add a protection offer

Cancellation conversations get easier

When a guest's plans collapse, a protected guest files a claim instead of demanding an exception to your cancellation policy. Your team stops adjudicating hardship stories.

Guests actually want it

Travelers already buy protection for flights and cruises. Offering it for the largest part of their trip — the stay — meets an expectation, especially for high-value bookings.

It supports the P&L

A protection offer at checkout is a program with real economics for the operator, not just a courtesy link. Talk to us about how the program is structured for your portfolio.

It protects your reviews

A guest who loses their trip and their money leaves a review about you, not about fate. Protection gives disappointed travelers a path that doesn't run through your ratings.

Guest travel protection is one layer of the Velaris program — it rides the same PMS connection as damage coverage and guest injury, so one integration powers the whole guest-facing stack.

Guest travel insurance vs. platform policies vs. marketplace cover

Platform protections such as AirCover and Vrbo damage protection protect the host against damage. None of them insures the guest’s trip. Here is what a guest actually has under each arrangement.

Guest travel protection questions

Is guest travel insurance the same as AirCover or Vrbo damage protection?

No. AirCover for guests is Airbnb's rebooking and refund guarantee for problems with the listing itself, and Vrbo damage protection covers the host against guest damage. Neither insures the guest's own trip against illness, injury, weather or job loss. Airbnb sells an optional travel insurance policy at checkout in some countries; it applies to that Airbnb booking only. A protection offer in your booking flow covers the guest's trip on every channel, including direct bookings.

Should property managers offer guests travel insurance?

For portfolios with meaningful booking values, yes. It reduces cancellation disputes and refund pressure, improves the guest experience on high-stakes trips, and — structured properly — carries program economics for the operator. The consumer travel-insurance market serves guests who go looking for coverage; embedding the offer at booking serves the 90% who don't.

How does the offer reach guests?

Through the booking flow you already run. Velaris connects to your PMS, so protection can be presented alongside the reservation — the same integration that powers damage-program enrollment. No new checkout, no separate system for your team.

What does guest travel protection typically cover?

Trip protection products are built around covered cancellations and interruptions and related trip costs. Exact benefits, limits, and exclusions are defined by the specific product and policy offered in your program — which we walk through with you before launch, in plain language.

Does this replace my cancellation policy?

No — it strengthens it. You keep the cancellation policy that protects your owners' revenue. Protection gives guests a way to insure their own risk against it, which is exactly the division of responsibility a professional operation wants.

How is this different from what booking platforms offer?

Platform-attached protection exists only on that platform's bookings. A PMS-embedded program covers every channel — including the direct bookings you're working hardest to grow — with one guest experience and one operator relationship: yours.
